Arc Flash Tips
Tips for your Arc Flash Hazard Analysis
Tip #1
You must have a licensed PE conduct the hazard analysis. Be sure to request verification of licensure of the professional engineer working on your project.
Tip #2
You get what you pay for. If a company is offering an analysis performed with free or internet software- beware! Many companies will also try to convince you that their Arc Flash “calculator” program is all you will need for a complete, accurate analysis- this is a dangerous misconception. Reputable arc flash companies use industry-standard software and pay upwards of $15,000 to $20,000 per license.
Tip #3
Get a quote for a full-scale study. The price of a quality analysis should include a Short-Circuit study, an Overcurrent Protection Device Coordination study, new one-line diagrams, new labels and a comprehensive report summarizing the findings and making recommendations on how to mitigate the hazards. Many companies offer a-la-carte analysis items in order to make their prices appear lower. Don’t be fooled.
RJS Engineering’s engineers are licensed professional engineers, we utilize industry-standard software (no “calculators” or **FREE** promises here!), and we will provide you a full, complete Arc Flash Hazard Analysis.
